According to our news partners at The Seattle Times, Ballard favorite Sonic Boom Records is for sale for the price of $850,000.
The sale was revealed through a listing on the Puget Sound Business Journal website which stated the reason for selling is that the owner plans on moving out of Washington.
Jason Hughes and Nabil Ayers started the business in Fremont in 1997, before they expanded to Capitol Hill and Ballard. The Fremont and Capitol Hill stores were closed in 2008 and 2011 respectively leaving the sole store in our neighborhood.
As The Seattle Times article states, Sonic Boom has definitely come out on top of the transition to music downloads and online streaming. The store was event listed by Rolling Stone in 2010 as one of the “Best Record Stores in the USA.”
The sale listing describes the business as follows:
