The Social Service Committee group within the North Precinct Advisory Council (NPAC) has organized a training for needle pick up for locals in the area.
The training session is set for Saturday, February 20, from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. at University Masonic Lodge (4338 University Way NE) and will provide community members who regularly see discarded needles in public places with the information they need to safely dispose of them.
“We have numerous parks in North Seattle that are seeing an increase in the amount of needles being discarded in the parks and, due to the length of time spent waiting for the Parks Department to respond to clean up, many are taking it upon themselves to pick up the needles themselves,” says Vice President of the Whittier Heights Community Council and Chair of NPAC’s Social Service Committee Gina Frank.
Joe Tinsley, Needle Exchange Coordinator for Seattle-King County Public Health, will cover the risks, proper handling, and disposal of used needles in the session. A limited number of sharps containers and garbage pickers will be also be available for participants.

The North Precinct Advisory Council (NPAC) meets the first Wednesday of every month, 7 p.m., at North Seattle College. NPAC members represent north Seattle community groups and businesses and meetings are open to the public.
