Get RainWise with Sustainable Ballard this Thursday

Sustainable Ballard is hosting a workshop to inform locals about the joint King County and City of Seattle RainWise Program this Thursday, June 23, at Loyal Heights Community Center (2101 NW 77th St) from 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

The program offers Ballard property owners up to a 100% rebate for the installation of rain gardens or cisterns.

The average rebate is over $4,000 to install an approved rain garden or cistern.  Collectively, almost 1000 rebated customers are reducing more than 13 million gallons of runoff annually.  These functional systems also add curbside appeal to homes.

Seattle homeowners can visit the RainWise Program website to learn about their eligibility for rebates as well as the program’s environmental benefits.

At Thursday’s event, attendees will have a chance to learn about the ways in which rain gardens and cisterns help protect the Puget Sound from toxic storm water run-off. Local homeowners who have claimed their rebate and RainWise-trained contractors will also be on hand to answer any questions.

All are welcome to attend the free event and learn more about the community benefits of installing rain gardens and cisterns in Ballard. The event is free and those interested can register online.

Additional information about the RainWise Program is available at www.700milliongallons.org/rainwise  by calling the Garden Hotline at 206-633-0224.
