Tonight: public forum to discuss oil trains in Ballard

The Sunset Hill Community Association will host a public forum tonight (Wednesday, Sept. 20) to discuss the impacts of oil trains moving through Ballard. The forum, “Oil Trains…& More” will be held at at the Sunset Hill Community Association Clubhouse (3003 NW 66th St) from 7 to 8:30 pm.

“Are you concerned about the oil trains rumbling through Ballard?  ‘Oil Trains…& More’ is about the trains carrying highly flammable substances through Seattle, along Shilshole Bay and beyond,” the organizers tell My Ballard.

City representatives from Seattle Fire, King County Emergency Management, and the Sierra Club will be present to address safety, emergency response, and political aspects of oil trains, and there will also be a discussion about other major fossil fuel projects planned in the Pacific Northwest. Speakers will include District 6 Seattle Councilmember Mike O’Brien, Seattle Fire Department Chief Assistant A.D Vickery,  King County Emergency Management External Affairs Manager Barnaby Dow, and Sierra Club representatives.
