BHS student films to screen at international film festival

The Ballard High School student filmmakers are at it again, kicking off the school year with a big presence at an international film festival. Eight films by 27 different students will be screened at the All American High School Film Festival (AAHSFF) in New York City. The competitive festival will be Oct. 6 – 8 at the Center for Social Innovation, AMC Theatres Times Square, and the historic Kings Theater in New York.

Judges include screenwriter Diablo Cody and documentary filmmaker Morgan Spurlock; actors Kristen Stewart and Dylan McDermott evaluated the films. Official Selections are eligible for prizes presented at the Teen Indie Awards at the conclusion of the festival, head of BHS film program’s Matt Lawrence tells My Ballard.

From BHS:

In addition to the Official Selections, a short documentary that Ballard film students produced for IMAX and the United Nations will also screen at the festival.  Only five high school filmmaking programs in the nation were chosen by IMAX and the AAHSFF to create these projects.  Ballard was selected due to the quality work BHS film students have brought to the AAHSFF on a regular basis.  (Ballard films have been finalists for top awards such as Best PSA, Best Documentary, Best Drama, Best Directing, Best Screenplay, and Best Overall Film.)   The documentary is titled On the Backs of Salmon and was produced for IMAX by Chris Barrett, Martin Bolivar Caroline Harader, Jasper Land, Maddie Lausted, Freeman Marshall, Aaron Miller, Cecilia O’Rollins, & Miles Whitworth.

Congratulations to the BHS students for the fantastic achievement!

  1. A wonderful event, I think that it’ll be informative and useful for many students. I would also like to attend more such events, but unfortunately, there is not always time for this. Recently, I was preparing for a difficult and responsible task for me. And the phd proposal writing service helped me with that. Because doing it myself was quite difficult.
