Improvements coming to Golden Gardens dog park

The off-leash area of Golden Gardens is about to get even more dog-friendly, with plans to install agility equipment at the park. Seattle Parks and Recreation will host an open meeting at the park (8498 Seaview Pl NW) on Thursday, August 30 from 4 to 6pm for the community to review and comment on the plans.

The improvements come as part of a funding initiative known as the People, Dogs and Parks Plan to improve off-leash areas throughout the city. Seattle Parks has $100,000 to spend annually until 2020 for the improvements, which will encompass upgrades to aging infrastructure and extra maintenance.

So far, four projects have been completed around the city since 2016, including a new fence at Magnuson Park, small- and shy-dog areas at Genesee and Woodland Parks, and infrastructure improvements at Regrade Park.

    1. Picture an obstacle course for dogs. Cones to swerve between. A ramp to go up and down, a tunnel to crawl through.

Seeing a real agility dog go through a course is pretty amazing.

My dog… has trouble with stairs….

  1. Would be great to put some of that money into a dog park closer into Ballard. Maybe replace that wading pool at Gilman park that’s used 8 weekends a year or something…

  2. Please put arborists mulch at this dog park. It would be a win-win for local arborist to dump their load and for the dog park. When it is dry, dogs running around kick up dirt and it creates a dust cloud with airborne urine and feces. AND in the winter it gets muddy. Mulch mulch mulch!

  3. How about an adult playground so we as adults can have fun without kids and their parents spewing out nonsense of how we’re too old to play.

It’s like “kid you don’t even know” as I begin to swing so hard I go upside down to show off to the kids that adults are better

  4. Please keep your dogs off the beach at Golden Gardens (illegal btw), and use the dog park instead. For some reason, Seattle loves to attack smokers while forcing everyone to endure their yapping dog babies in places where they are, in fact, prohibited. Respect your neighbors please, all you selfie-taking self-identified geniuses. Thanks.
