Ballard Library to host Northwest Youth Harp Ensemble holiday concert

The Ballard Library will soon host a holiday-themed Northwest Youth Harp Ensemble concert, happening on Saturday, Dec. 8.

The harp students, under the direction of Ballard harpist Susi Hussong, will be playing holiday favorites from around the world. In addition to the harp players, there will be accompanying violin, cello, flute, bells, drums and singing. The concert will be held from 2pm to 3pm, and is free and open to the public.

The Ballard branch’s monthly reading series and poetry “potluck” is also coming up soon — here’s more information from the library:

It’s About Time Writers’ Reading Series – 6 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13 A monthly series featuring author readings and open mics. The 350th meeting features readings from Benjamin Schmitt, Roberta Feins and Carol P. Holding. Christian Downes will give a short lecture on the writer’s craft.

Poetry ‘Potluck’ – 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20 An informal monthly gathering for listening to and reading poetry aloud. Attendees should bring a few favorite poems. This is a feast of poetry, not a food event.

    1. Hi, thanks for your support. Funny stuff, friend – but inconsiderate. You seem to be taking a ‘jab’ at our most vulnerable community members. We don’t tolerate that kind of nonsense here in Ballard! We believe in inclusivity and sensitivity for all – unless you’re a cisgendered white male, they’re the worst, amirite? Get Woke, Friend! And remember, Vote Salty, Vote O’Brine 2019!

  1. Tried to take my two granddaughters to the library last summer. While walking there we cruised by Commons Park and both became a little scared. When we got to the camp site, er library, a young man was urinating in some shrubbery. Both kids would not go any closer to library so we went home. Have not been back since and kids surely won’t be back although the oldest used to love going when younger to hear stories read to the kids. Sad state of affairs in Ballard these days. Tents in neighbors parking strip and she’s to scared to go for her once daily walk to shop, kibbitz with other seniors in hood but not anymore. I guess we’re not progressive enough anymore. Just want safe neighborhood for everyone. Thanks alot MOB you SOB!!!

    1. Hey, what did I do? Bad attitude, friend. Remember, I know what’s best for you and the region.
