There’s a project underway to create a maritime-themed mural for Lagunitas, and two neighborhood groups are seeking artist submissions.
Spearheaded by the Ballard Alliance and Ballard Public Art Committee, the Community Mural Project will be created for the south-facing wall of Lagunitas Brewery. The Alliance says they need an artist to create a 5’3″-high by 60′-long, “maritime industrial-inspired mural that is representative of the Ballard community.”
“The goal of this project is to foster community in a growing neighborhood, bringing residents, businesses, and visitors together through art,” the Alliance writes on their website. Costs to create the mural will be paid for by Lagunitas and Western Towboat.
“This unique partnership should be considered in the final design of the mural,” they say in the submission details. “Aspects to consider incorporating into the mural include the iconic blue and yellow Western Towboats of Ballard, Lagunitas beer, and the industrial nature and maritime history of Ballard.”
The deadline for artists submissions is April 8 — an artist will be chosen by April 22. For more details and to apply, click here.

Shannon Galahan! This is your calling!!
How about a big huge banner that says “corporate beer sucks, drink locally owned beer”
I mean, some corporate beer is good. Just being local isn’t inherently better. That is functionally the same argument Trump uses to ban foreigners.
