Sweet Mickey’s opens on Ballard Ave

Sweet Mickey’s has just softly opened their new location a few days ago, right in the middle of Ballard Ave.

Owner Randy Brinker announced his plans to move into the former Jax Joon location last September. Now, with the transformation of the space at 5333 Ballard Ave NW complete, he’s open and ready for business.

Sweet Mickey’s original location next to the Ballard Commons Park opened in 2012, but Brinker said he was ready for a change of scenery, and wanted to be closer to the core of Ballard.

The new store is a little different — no more ice cream, but will offer gourmet roasted nuts. And, expect to find hard-to-find international candies and (even more) fudge.

Brinker said he’ll be throwing a grand opening party on April 27.

    1. But, but…homeless homie has a sweet tooth and he spent his last ten bucks on a bag of meth!
      Ohhhh, have a heart, sweetheart.

  1. Sweet…literally! Oh Ballard…between cocktail bars, gourmet ice cream, and candy shops…again, there goes my diet. Although “goes” implies it might have been on track. Perhaps ‘there’s gone my diet’ or ‘my diet’s gone, ne’er to return!’

  2. “he was ready for a change of scenery, and wanted to be closer to the core of Ballard.”

Ballard Commons used to be the core of Ballard for kids activities. For the past 3 years it has been taken over by drug users and dog poop. I have seen kids walk on the other side of the street to avoid the park which is almost always full of “residents” with open containers screaming profanities.

So what’s the Seattle solution? Build them a new $2 million toilet to replace the Honey Buckets they regularly destroy and use to shoot up heroin.

    1. 7 city council members are up. MOB leaving is a damn good start here. Problem is; there are more MOB’s out there who feel, like too many communist sympathizers, that it’s “just the wrong people bringing it”. As if the shreds of human debris and their garbage everywhere just isn’t enough yet. As if the basic legalization of heroin isn’t enough. And just last month MB ran a story about another liberal uptopian coming out west to run for officer here. Gee, I wonder why? Wouldn’t be because it’s SO easy to play these highly educated nuevo-riche residents, would it? I mean, just mention Trump and off you go.

    2. Your statement is easily refuted by anyone walking through the park, on any given day. Yeah, there’s a few homeless people, but the park is otherwise well used by kids, families and the elderly.

I know it’s clear you hate Ballard, based on your typical comments, but why would you make such a bold faced lie? Maybe you should team up with Sinclair Media and create a video called “Ballard Commons is Dying”?

      1. Truth,

I have lived next to the Commons for 10 years and there is a very noticeable increase in criminal activity (see police reports) and decrease in kids actively using the park. I can’t take you back in time to prove it as you are probably new to Ballard.

I love how people who care about improving Ballard are now labeled as “hating Ballard” you sound like you would be a great Trump supporter.

        1. How is flat out lying about the decreasing usage of a park “improving Ballard”? The park was well used a decade ago and it is well used today.

All you’re doing is spreading misinformation in the form of easily disprovable lies. To what purpose? Only you may ever know.

          1. Please easily disprove that then. Just saying “trust me” isn’t disproving anything. I would think looking at police reports would be a better method.

          2. Or just walk over to Ballard Commons to see for oneself, which would be the best method, in my opinion. No need to trust me.

          3. It’s not my fault you don’t actually live in Ballard and so can’t actually go see for your own eyes.
