A local nonprofit has been given a national award for their ongoing support of the Ballard Locks.
The Army Corps of Engineers have awarded Discover Your Northwest the National Excellence in Partnerships 2018 Award. There will be a ceremony today (April 25) at 1:30pm at the Locks to deliver the award to the nonprofit.
Discover Your Northwest is well-known for their support of the Locks, and were especially instrumental in commemorating the Locks’ Centennial in 2017. The organization helped lead many of the most-attended events, including the 5k race, jazz festival, dance, and historic boat parade.
One of the organization’s biggest contributions includes the project to significantly upgrade the fish ladder viewing area — in less than two years, they’ve raised over $1 million in grants and donations for the upgrades.
