Beast and Cleaver butcher opening in Loyal Heights

A local butcher is opening up shop in Loyal Heights, just next to Larsen’s Bakery and the Fresh Fish Co.

Beast and Cleaver will take over the space at 2362 80th St. and become a “whole animal neighborhood butcher shop,” according to owner and “Englishman turned Seattleite” Kevin Smith.

The location, once home to Marcel’s Hair Design, will also have a small kitchen, which will serve dinner on Saturdays for 10 guests.

“These dinners will showcase the best meats and produce available on any given week,” Smith writes on Instagram.

“This project has taken almost four years to come to fruition and the beginning is very near,” Smith writes. He says he expects to be open this fall.

    1. I like the name! There’s no hiding what is going on.
It reminds me of the good old days when the tribe would gather around a mastodon with stone choppers and have a feast.

  1. I am so excited to have a butcher in the neighborhood. If there were a produce stand within a couple blocks too Loyal Heights would be a proper village! Top Banana Two?

  2. I am so excited for this. Right now the only place to get ethically sourced meat in Ballard is the Sunday farmers market. There are only two stands there one of which sells strictly frozen meat (which is great! but requires thawing).

    I’ll be shopping here A LOT !!

  3. The only thing that would make it better is if it were Halal, have any idea how hard it is to get mutton and goat in this city?
No, I’m not kidding or trying to start a debate. If you have never been to a Halal butcher shop, you don’t know what you are missing.

  4. I had hope for Fish n Chip option with some fresh slaw and potato salad that would benefit their neighbor too. Ideally, both would thrive with a good relationship. Would have been great for a quick dinner/take home option for those days the traffic gets you home after 6.
Butcher, Best Meats 305 NW 83rd has been an excellent butcher for us locally.
