Demolition and repaving scheduled for south side of Market St this week

Work to replace the aging water main at 24th Ave NW and NW Market St is complete, as crews also wrap up paving work on the center lane of Market.

According to SDOT, work has now shifted to the south side of Market St as crews begin demolition and concrete cutting work. The traffic flow is now on the north side of Market St, with one lane in each direction east/west between 24th Ave and 54th Ave.

SDOT says the work on the south side should take a week and half, with conduit work beginning late this week.

Crews will also pave the southwest curb extension at 24th Ave NW and Market intersection late this week or next week.

More work will simultaneously continue on NW 54th St, including excavating pole foundations and pouring foundation bases, along with road excavation and grading.

SDOT says the upcoming work will impact pedestrians, as they’ll be working on various sections of the sidewalks along Market. There will be detours in place along the project corridor.

    1. In Ballard, NW 54th Street runs between the ship canal and NW Market Street. This is near the Market Arms and where all the derelict bike chop shop people had set up shop.

      1. I wonder just where these geographic experts all came from? And why does it matter so much? What if there were no pics or stories? How would all these experts then know what to bitch about or micro-manage?

        1. I’m pointing out what appears to be a typo. An east/west route “between 24th Ave and 54th Ave” doesn’t exist since there is no 54th Ave.

      2. I’m well aware of where NW 54th Street is. But the second paragraph says “The traffic flow is now on the north side of Market St, with one lane in each direction east/west between 24th Ave and 54th Ave.”

          1. The article says “one lane in each direction east/west between 24th Ave and 54th Ave.” There is no 54th Ave in Ballard. Look at the map. The western most Avenue in Ballard is 37th Ave NW.

        1. Says the privileged white man, who floods the board with his “brilliant” comments that he demands be respected because of his socioeconomic status. Please check yourself.

          1. You know absolutely nothing about my socioeconomic status. Not a thing.

    2. gobigblue – go look at a map! Or just Google 54th Avenue in Ballard. It is a street, south of Market from 24th all the way to the Locks as a dirt road ( the section behind the Nordic Museum is now paved) and then it continues as a REAL street from the entrance to the locks all the way to 34th as 54th Street NW.
Now I bet you wish you didn’t post that because you can’t edit or delete it. :)

      1. Thanks for the cartography lesson. I’ve lived in Ballard for 20+ years. I know where 54th Street is. You need to look at the the article, which says “one lane in each direction east/west between 24th Ave and 54th Ave.” 54th Ave (NW) doesn’t exist. I’m pointing out a typo in the article, which was sloppily written and clearly not copy edited, which would have found and corrected this error.

  1. Was pissy about this when it was disrupting my commute, but I have to admit they did a pretty bang up job with that shitty old intersection.
