Public invited to discuss zoning changes for West Woodland Elementary

The Seattle School District is proposing changes for West Woodland Elementary, and they’re asking for public feedback.

Some of the projects in the works include renovations of the commons/stage area, gymnasium, and library, and a new P.E. office. A covered outdoor play area will be added, and the parking lot will be reconfigured.

A few of the changes require zoning modifications, so the school district will host a meeting on Monday, Jan. 6 at 6pm at West Woodland Elementary (5601 4th Ave NW) to discuss the changes. The school district will give a presentation and will provide an opportunity for attendees to ask questions and provide comments.

The following modifications are being proposed:

  • Greater than allowed building height
  • Reduced setbacks for building and site structures in the north and south
  • Reduction of on-site parking
  • Addition of bicycle parking
  • Addition of an electric message board

The West Woodland Elementary School Development Standards Departure Advisory Committee, a group composed of neighbors and Seattle School District and City representatives, will be there to hear the presentation. Following any public comments, the committee will deliberate and consider the District’s requests.

If you can’t attend the meeting but would like to weigh in, you may submit written comments by Jan. 3 to Nelson Pesigan via email (nelson.pesigan@seattle.gov) or regular mail: Seattle Department of Neighborhoods, P.O. Box 94649, Seattle, WA 98124-4649.
