Community meeting planned to discuss 7-story Crown Hill development

There’s a big apartment complex being planned for the corner of 15th Ave NW and NW 85th St, and next Monday, there will be a community meeting to learn more and offer comments.

The development plans include 200 apartment units, 12,000 sq. ft. of retail, and parking for 90 vehicles. The site is the northwest corner of the 15th and 85th intersection, where Bento Sushi used to operate. The project would also replace the two empty buildings to the north.

In addition to the ground-level retail, the site plan shows a large gym, co-working space, and a protected bike parking area.

The public meeting to learn more will be at Wild Mountain Cafe (1408 NW 85th St) on Monday, Jan. 27 from 6 to 7pm. The project team and architects will be there to present the plans and answer questions. Coffee and cookies will be provided — no RSVP is necessary.

  1. Finally! This has been a derelict corner for several years now. I always figured the property owner was waiting for Goofy’s lease to run out. That must be happening soon. Will Goofy’s be part of the ground floor retail? Will the male strippers at Centerfolds be returning? Probably not on both counts.

  2. Hoorah, more congestion and more millennials with too much time/money, coming soon. And that thing in the sky we see sometimes, it’s over-rated. Ironic to me that the infrastructure isn’t considered prior to action. Such as 65th + 24th. Why wasn’t there a contingency plan built in for remediation of said intersection BEFORE tearing down the Viking tavern, etc? While this was occurring, another gazillion people moved into our area. Inslee wants to again raise gas taxes with a HUGE bankroll. Now why would he do that? Why does he mimic everything CA does? Wouldn’t be to push us into buses, Uber and their very expensive choo-choo’s, would it?

  3. We can only hope for some housing for the homeless or at least low-income folks involved in this development. Maybe a safe injection site, get some level of pubic good out of the development.

    1. Safe injection sites are a proven strategy to keep rents down. Visit the Hastings Street area in Vancouver BC to learn how well this works.
