Downtown Dog Lounge is working to open a dog-treat bakery in Fremont, set to take over the former Pie location at 3515 Fremont Ave N.
The news came in announcement on Facebook from Pie, saying that the owner of Downtown Dog Lounge, Elise, has taken over the space and “is working diligently to turn it into an amazing place to spoil your pups with delicious baked goods of their own.”
Pie closed in November after nine years — co-owner Jess Whitsitt is in grad school and decided it was time to move on.
“One of the challenges for any small business in this city is rallying people to try new things and garnering the support to keep it going,” Pie wrote on Facebook. “So let’s welcome her with open arms to our lovely neighborhood of Fremont and I know your dog will thank you for it!”
No word yet on when the bakery will open — we’ll update with new info.

I ate dog once in Asia. It didn’t taste like chicken. Maybe this place will be better.
Perhaps they’ll branch out and soon be serving Racoon-aroni or Awesome Possum!
Oh for God’s sakes, it is SO nice to see priorities taking order here. My parents made us eat the rutabagas when we were kids, telling us “there were starving kids in Biafra”.
I agree, there are plenty of bakeries in Fremont already. Most will even let the dog behind the counter to find which “treat” they like the most.
So correct me if I’m wrong, you are all about small business, don’t want to be told how to run your business, but you don’t approve of others starting whichever business they’d like, and you want others to conduct their businesses only the way you see fit?
A suggestion for you, shut the f*@k up and run your business how you’d like, and let others run theirs how they’d like.
Will they serve Gay dogs? How about cats that “think” they are dogs, even though the DNA says NO?
I’d suggest you go into their business and troll them in person to get that info. And buy a treat while you are there to support small local business.
