Traffic signal work at 24th and Market this week

This Thursday and Friday (Feb. 21-22), the traffic signal at 24th and NW Market St will be turned off while crews do some work, and uniformed police officers will be on site to help direct traffic.

The work is part of the Ballard Multimodal Corridor project, set to fully revamp Market Street. SDOT says the traffic signal work is weather dependent and is subject to change.

Starting as early as March 7, crews from King County Metro will be installing new trolley wires along NW Market St. SDOT says they expect the work will take about four weeks to complete, and say that parking will be restricted during the work.

Crews will install trolley wires for eastbound buses on NW Market St first, beginning at 32nd Ave NW and working their way east towards 24th Ave NW. When eastbound wires are complete, they’ll shift to the westbound trolley lines, beginning at NW 54th St and moving towards 24th Ave NW.

SDOT says crews will work seven days a week to complete the trolley wire installations, from 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday, and 8am to 12am on weekends.

Some of the barriers along Market Street should be taken away soon, but SDOT says the orange barriers along NW Locks Pl and NW 54th St serve as pedestrian detour and will remain in place until spring.

      1. Because rebuilding a major intersection, including above and below ground utilities, as part of a larger rebuild of a major arterial, in an extremely busy part of town, is a massive undertaking?

Or you can just blame it on the LIBRULZ like certain glue huffers in this comment thread.
