Ballard Locks closed to all foot traffic during pandemic

The Ballard Locks is closing all facilities and pathways to pedestrians and bikes during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The closure will come into effect tonight (March 17) at 9pm. Locks operations for maritime traffic will be maintained — as a reminder, the large chamber is still closed to marine traffic for the Stoney Gate Valve Project through April 4th.

All tours are cancelled and the visitor center is closed until further notice. We’ll update if anything changes.

  1. I was there on Saturday and they had signs up saying garden paths are closed but travel across the dam for “commuting” was ok. A ranger there said they were giving people a few minutes to ogle but then asking them to move on. Not sure if this article is referring to this rules or did they lock it down even more? Might have to go pop over and check.

  2. They have now shut the entrance gates. No one from the public can walk or bike into the Locks. Can’t wait until we return to normal. I appreciate even more what what have around here.
