Hmong flower sales raise $1300 and nearly a thousand pounds of food for Ballard Food Bank

The Hmong flower delivery program in Ballard continues to bring in food and funds for the Ballard Food Bank, with $1,300 going to the food bank last weekend from 630 bouquet sales.

For the past several weeks, a group of volunteers have been selling bouquets from the Hmong Association of Washington to help support both the flower farmers and Ballard Food Bank during the pandemic. Each week, the organizers take online orders up until Wednesday evenings. The flowers come in a big truck on Saturday morning, and volunteers divvy them up to deliver them around Ballard and surrounding neighborhoods.

Each bouquet costs $15, but many buyers have been donating above that amount—anything over $15 goes to the food bank. The food donations are collected during the deliveries, as many buyers have been setting out bags or boxes of food on their front porch for the volunteers to pick up when they drop off bouquets.

The previous weekend, the flower delivery program sold over 500 bouquets and raised over $1,000 and 700 pounds of food for the Ballard Food Bank.

The delivery service will continue on a week-by-week basis—to order a bouquet, get your online order in by Wednesday at 8pm.
