Kick It Boutique closing brick-and-mortar, moving to online sales

The clothing store Kick It Boutique will be closing their shop at 2206 NW Market St at the end of June, and will moving to online sales only.

This is the second store closure in Ballard announced this week, as Kick It joins Curtis Steiner in shutting its doors after a challenging few months of COVID-19 closures.

The owner, Lauren Buehner-Storbeck, announced the news on Twitter, saying that since she bought the business in 2018, there’s been one setback after another. Between the west Market Street construction, the 2019 fire that claimed nearby businesses at 24th and Market, COVID-19, and the upcoming central Market Street repaving, Buehner-Storbeck says it’s not viable for the long-term in their current location.

By the end of June, Kick It’s inventory will only be available online, but Buehner-Storbeck says she plans to open a new location next year, likely on the east side of Lake Washington.

“This decision was not taken lightly and I am saddened by the events that have occurred in the last six months,” Buehner-Storbeck writes. “I hope you will continue to stay with us virtually for the moment and join us in the new space when the time comes.”
