Ballard Food Bank to give away hundreds of turkeys this week

The Ballard Food Bank is getting ready to give away hundreds of turkeys and other Thanksgiving fixings to North Seattle residents tomorrow and Thursday (Nov. 18 and 19).

Members of the National Guard alongside food bank staff and Ethan Stowell will be distributing the turkeys and other food supplies through the food bank’s COVID-safe drive-thru and home deliveries.

The food bank has been far busier this year due to COVID-19—last month, they counted 6,400 visits to the food bank and home deliveries, which is twice as many as their usual visits in pre-COVID times.

“Many of our neighbors are facing hunger and poverty, and we want to make sure that everyone in our area can enjoy Thanksgiving dinner,” Ballard Food Bank Executive Director Jennifer Muzia said in a statement.

To access the drive-thru, drivers should enter from NW Leary Way into the Ballard Food Bank parking lot. Drivers will join a car queue and when it’s your turn, volunteers will load a pre-packed food box into the trunk or car without requiring person-to-person contact. The food bank will be open limited hours both days—see their website for updated hours or to schedule a home delivery.
