Boutique jewelry store Aide-mémoire selling locally made wedding rings in North Ballard

A local jeweler has opened a new brick-and-mortar in the neighborhood, specializing in wedding and engagement rings.

Aide-mémoire opened this summer at 7003 3rd Ave NW, selling other jewelry, accessories, and ceramics alongside wedding rings. Owner Aran Galligan started her jewelry line in 2012; her new shop is her first brick-and-mortar.

The jewelry store has what’s called a “Fit and Feel Library,” which includes prototypes of the entire collection of engagement, wedding, and everyday-wear rings. Customers can try on sample styles for made-to-order rings, get pricing for different options, or place a custom order for an engagement or wedding ring.

“I wanted customers who are shopping for wedding jewelry to have a different kind of experience than you would find at the traditional jewelry store. The Fit and Feel Library gives them the freedom to try on all the styles and determine pricing without the pressure of hovering salespeople, though we are always there to help if they want it,” Galligan said in a statement.

Alongside the jewelry line, the shop sells “handcrafted, environment-forward, and socially conscious” accessories and homewares. Many of the items in the shop are created byLGBTQ+, BIPOC, or women-led business communities.

“I think it’s important for people to appreciate and enjoy the value of a truly handmade item while supporting our entire community of artists,” Galligan said.

Aide-mémoire is open now on Thursdays and Fridays from 1 p.m. to 7p.m., and Saturdays from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., and Wednesdays by appointment only.
