Ballard Locks restores power, opens large lock for one day before extended closure

The Ballard Locks has restored power after a three-day outage.

The outage happened on Monday and affected both the large and small locking chambers. They were offering manual lockages during the outage, which U.S. Army Corps Public Affairs Specialist Dallas Edwards says was time-consuming and limited to daylight hours.

Edwards says that while both locking chambers are now fully operational, the large lock will only be open until 3 a.m. Friday when it will close for the annual maintenance dewatering. The small lock will remain open during the maintenance.

The dewatering is expected to last about two weeks, with reopening scheduled for 4 p.m. Nov. 24.
