Christmas Boat Parade to make the rounds on Lake Union this Saturday

The annual Christmas Boat Parade on Lake Union is happening this Saturday, Dec. 17.

The parade—in which dozens of private boats light up their vessels and cruise around Lake Union—is also a toy drive for the Seattle Children’s Hospital.

“It’s Holiday boating for a cause; while keeping our active Pacific Northwest maritime community and industry united and keeping holiday traditions of active cruising on Lake Union,” the website reads.

Ballard’s West Marine store (1400 NW 45th St.) will be collecting toys for the toy drive and registering vessels for the parade on Dec. 15 and 16.

The parade will start at 7 p.m. at Fremont Tug and will go clockwise around Lake Union, finishing at Morrison Fuel Dock.

The boat parade will also be a contest, with five different categories:

1. Best In Show – People’s Choice Award
2. Best Santa & Reindeer Theme
3. Best & Biggest Christmas Tree & Lights Theme
4. Best Christmas Snowman, Winter Wonderland Theme
5. Most Overall Christmas Lights – Brightest & Most Colorful Boat in the Parade

Some of the best viewing will be at Gas Works Park, unless you have a boat and want to join in on the water (sign up online). For more information, email parade@seattlechristmasboatparade.com or send a text message to 206-999-3088.
