Put your Christmas tree out for composting until Jan. 31

The City of Seattle is offering free composting for Christmas trees now through the end of January.

Seattle Public Utilities says to cut up trees into sections of 4 feet long or less and place tree sections or bundled holiday greens next to your yard waste cart on your regular collection day.

Apartment residents can place up to two trees next to each food and waste cart at no charge.

If you don’t have yard waste collection, you can also drop off up to three trees at a time (less than 8 feet in length) at one of the transfer stations.

As a reminder, SPU does not collect garbage, recycling, or food/yard waste on New Year’s Day (Jan. 1). Service will be delayed by one day for all customers.
