This March, 23, the Leif to Leif 5k Fun Run is coming back to Ballard as part of the Leif Erikson Lodge’s Norwegian Cultural and Heritage Day.
The Leif to Leif is a 5k run that goes from the Leif Erikson Lodge at 2245 NW 57th to the Leif Erikson statue at Shilshole Marina starting at 9 a.m. After the fun run, the lodge will host Tastes of Norway until 3 p.m.
5k participants are asked to arrive by 8 a.m. to register for a 9 a.m. start time. They’ll be giving out mini Norwegian flags, temporary tattoos, and a heart-shaped waffle for participation. There will be an awards ceremony at 10:15 a.m.
Registration is $20 for adults and $10 for 13-17-year-olds; proceeds are shared with the Ballard NW Senior Center and you can sign up online.
After the race, the Leif Erikson Lodge will be serving hot food, Scandinavian-baked items (cookies, lefse, bløtkake), coffee, soda, and more. There will also be Norwegian crafts, music, and dancing as part of the Bunad Tog/Parade.
Admission to the Heritage Day events are free and open to the public.
