National Nordic Museum hosts chef tasting tied to current culinary exhibit

The National Nordic Museum is hosting a tasting event featuring local chefs as part of its current exhibition, New Nordic: Cuisine, Aesthetics and Place, which runs through March 8, 2026.

According to the museum, the tasting on Jan. 22 will feature a select group of chefs from the Seattle area, each preparing a small “bite” using locally sourced ingredients. The dishes are intended to reflect the “New Nordic Food Manifesto” through the chefs’ own personal and cultural stories.

The event will include bites from eight Seattle restaurants and chefs: Eldr (Liam Byres), Ethan Stowell Restaurants (Ethan Stowell), Freya Café (James Sherrill), Lakehouse (Jason Wilson), Lark (John Sundstrom), Lingon (Edward Bunker), Meesha/Kricket Club (Preeti Agarwal), and Pidgin Cooperative (Zach and Seth Pacleb).

The tasting is part of the broader New Nordic: Cuisine, Aesthetics and Place exhibition, which explores the New Nordic food movement and its influence on food, design, and culture. The museum describes the movement as one that began in the Nordic countries in the early 2000s and later grew into an international phenomenon focused on local ingredients, culinary traditions, and natural materials.

The exhibition also looks at how New Nordic ideas have extended beyond food into architecture, contemporary art, design, and crafts. It draws from the museum’s collection as well as objects loaned from various restaurants to show how the movement connects materials, people, and landscape.

The exhibition is included with a paid general admission ticket, except on Free First Thursdays, when general admission is free and tickets to the exhibition are available for $5 at the door.
