Private security firm to monitor Golden Gardens this summer

A private security company will patrol Golden Gardens beach and park this summer.

Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) has contracted a private security company to work at Golden Gardens due to a limited number of park rangers, according to SPR Community Service Branch Manager Jon Jainga, who shared the news at the community meeting on noise and partying concerns on April 11.

The plan is for one or two private security firm officers to monitor Golden Gardens from 10 p.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday to Sunday nights from May 1 to September 30.

At the community meeting, Jainga said the private security firm officers will be the “eyes and ears” for Seattle Parks. They’ll be keeping an eye on after-hours activity, deter late-night parties, and improve police response when needed.

Seattle Parks also just announced the summer hours for Golden Gardens. Starting May 1. Golden Gardens will be open 4 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Beach fires will be allowed strating May 22 at designated fire pits at Golden Gardens seven days a week on a first-come, first-served basis. Fires must be extinguished by 10 p.m., and staff will be on site to help extinguish fires.
