Ballard’s newest pub The Crown is opening its doors today at 8000 15th Ave NW.
The Crown co-owner Bob Hougland announced the news on Facebook, saying he’s opening the doors on Wednesday, Aug 12 at 2 p.m. Hougland, who lives just a mile away from the pub, said the name is a nod to Crown Hill, adding that he wants to appeal to locals. “My focus is going to be involving the neighborhood,” he told My Ballard in July.
He and his wife and co-owner Christine have been working on the opening for the past few months, updating seating and adding televisions for sports viewing.
Hougland has over 30 years of bartending experience, having worked at many Ballard bars over the years. He spent 10 years at The Viking (which closed in 2013) and four years at Olaf’s. He also managed Hilltop Ale House and Stepping Stone, which closed in 2025.
Hougland told My Ballard that they plan to focus on craft beer, wine, and liquor, with about a dozen beers on tap. He’s adding a limited menu with hot sandwiches, salads, soup, chili, nachos, and other appetizers.
The new pub is opening in the former Schooner Street Pub location, which closed in January after being open six months. The location was also home to Pour Decisions and The Dane in recent years.
The Crown, which is 21+, is open 2 p.m. to midnight every day, with occasional early openings for Seahawks games.
“I hope to see you all there!” Hougland wrote.
