Update: Seattle Fire says the fire started in an, “old, decommissioned ambulance-type vehicle,” and that just one fire truck was enough to contain and extinguish the blaze.
Original: A converted camper caught fire near the Ballard Locks after an explosion this morning just after 11am.

Ballard resident Bo Saxbe was at the Locks when and his daughter heard the explosion and saw the smoke that followed. “Very pungent burnt plastic smell,” he says, “and the explosion/heat knocked down the fencing.”

Saxbe said he believes no one was hurt in the explosion in what looks like a converted ambulance. He heard from bystanders that the owner was working on the vehicle, left it running, and wasn’t around when it caught fire.
Seattle Fire was on scene and putting out the blaze when Saxbe arrived. We have a call out to Seattle Fire and will update if there’s new information.
