Ship Canal Trail repairs to cause detour near Ballard Bridge

Sections of the Ship Canal Trail in Interbay will be repaired beginning Thursday, Aug. 27.

The Seattle Department of Transportation expects the work to continue through Monday, Aug. 31.

SDOT will repave a portion of the trail just west of the south end of the Ballard Bridge. People walking, biking and rolling through the area will be directed onto a temporary detour while the work is underway.

Trail users should cross at the traffic signal at 19th Avenue West, follow the marked detour, and reconnect with the trail through the underpass near 16th Avenue West. People traveling through the area should follow posted signs and allow extra time.

The work is located near improvements completed as part of SDOT’s Interbay Trail Connections Project. That project added protected bike lanes and redesigned intersections along 20th Avenue West, Gilman Avenue West, West Government Way and West Emerson Place, helping connect the Ship Canal Trail with the Elliott Bay Trail.
