There’s a new restaurant called Sea Rose in the former Stepping Stones location at 5903 24th Ave NW.
Co-owner Sonu Hamade, who also owns the building, says she and her daughter Raya dreamed up the concept for Sea Rose together. “We wanted to make something really beautiful,” Hamade told My Ballard, adding that she’s created the menu while her husband rebuilt the interior of the space.
The menu at Sea Rose spans breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner, with a mix of American favorites and dishes influenced by Mexican, Indian, and Mediterranean flavors. Breakfast and brunch options include omelets, pancakes, French toast, eggs Benedict, and steak and eggs, along with Mexican breakfast dishes such as huevos rancheros and chilaquiles.
The lunch and dinner menu includes sandwiches, burgers, fusion rice bowls, salads, and platters. Sandwich options include grilled Thai chicken, chicken parmesan, shawarma, falafel, grilled eggplant, and pulled beef, while burgers include double smash, classic, and crispy chicken versions, served on bread from the neighboring Tall Grass Bakery. Sea Rose also has curry-inspired rice bowls, birria tacos, and a falafel salad.
Sea Rose is currently in a soft-opening phase, with regular hours to be determined based on demand, Hamade said. For now, the restaurant serves breakfast from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and dinner from 5 to 10 p.m. It is not currently serving alcohol, though Hamade said that could change in the future.
Sea Rose took over the space formerly occupied by Stepping Stones, which closed in January 2025. Hamade and her family also used to own Flowers Bar in the U-District, which is now closed.
