My Ballard reader Denver asked us a question: “The city has installed something on the east side of 15th about a block before you get to Market if you are heading north… It is a pole with some solar panels. I’m wondering if this is a Ballard Bridge traffic cam (I read recently that they put one in at the Fremont Bridge) or is this the start of the red light cameras at 15th and Market?”
Well, Denver, we marshaled our forces to find an answer. It turns out it’s a traffic sensor for Traffic.com which is expanding upon the state DOT’s map with one of their own, according to a Traffic.com representative. No camera, unfortunately, but the sensor just outside the Schucks auto parts store does help fill in what’s been a big hole in the area’s traffic monitoring network.
