Video of the Denny’s demolition

Posted by Geeky Swedes on June 24th, 2008

We shot some video of the demolition here. And My Ballard reader Ben shot this video clip of the bulldozer tearing off the last piece of the swooping roof (takes a moment to load), and Kelly sent us these photos below… (thanks Ben and Kelly!)

Update: It’s interesting to see all the Twittering about the demolition in our new Ballard Twitter page (which is still in beta).

Won't somebody think of the bums!? Where are they going to sleep now that Denny's is gone?!

I hope that our "green" Mayor is requiring the builder to recycle all of those mounds of rubble. Or do they just ship it to the dump (at a discount)?

As glad as I am to see this thing die. I hate the current design for the apartments...think NOMA on steroids.

Biff, where did you see the current design?

Video! Best yuppie porn I've seen all week.

Throw in some video of Sunset Bowl coming down and you can start charging us to get this aroused.

Thanks for the great photos and video!

Very dramatic photos. T-Rex smashes Ballard.

Cool video and photos. It's kinda creepy and weird that they tore it down so early in the morning.

I only went in that Denny's once and walked out before I was even seated because it was so gross. If it was Mannings they demolished, that would be one thing but it was a really disgusting eyesore of a Denny's. Buh-bye.

If we're lucky the street level retail will include a boutique with fashion victim clothes, ugly sunglasses and tiny shoes.

In answer to phil on qa, yes it will be recycled. All concrete and asphalt will go to a crusher and end up road base, concrete or asphalt somewhere. Metal will go to recycling as well as organics. Only things like fixtures and carpets and such will go to the landfill. Sometimes, even carpet can be reused as dust control somewhere.

Those pics remind of that children's book "Are you My Mother?" I kept looking for the baby bird in the rubble!
