Paseo to open Tuesday in Gordo’s spot

Posted by Geeky Swedes on August 11th, 2008

We saw on Ballard Gossip Girl as well as on our own Ballard Twitter page that Paseo plans to open tomorrow. Sure enough, we dropped by and talked to some folks who were working hard with last-minute preparations.

Paseo will open at 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Gordo’s old location along Seaview. The Cuban sandwich shop will feature the same tasty menu from its highly-praised Fremont location. How good is Paseo? They usually win every “best sandwich in Seattle” contest, and it’s not uncommon to see long lines outside their Fremont location at lunch.

I'll definitely check this place out. It's too bad they couldn't land a place on Market, Leary or Ballard Ave. If this place is as good as everyone says, people won't hesitate to drive to Shilshole to get a sandy.

Very nice! I was going to see if it was open this weekend but decided to wait. Lunch, tomorrow for sure. Can't miss it now with that paint job.

For anyone who has eaten here before can you recommend anything? Favorites?
  • The Midnight Cuban and Cuban Press are my favorites. Honestly, I don't think you can go wrong with anything on their menu. They even have a tofu sandwich which the vegetarians say is amazing.
If you eat in, you will get a delicious seasoned ear of corn with your sandwich, if you get it to go, sadly they don't send you out with one for some reason.
  • P.S.
I think I will go right at 11 tomorrow to check it out!

I will be craving this food once a week now that they are so close :)

All I have to say is Ballard is so lucky to have Paseo, regardless of location. Remember to bring cash as the Fremont location is CASH ONLY!

Awesome! For the folks at Shilshole Marina this should be a welcome option, as there aren't many options (other than Little Cony) in walking distance for a quick snack. Supposedly Anthony's was going to build a satellite restaurant there in the center of the marina, you know, in the vacant lot surrounded by chainlink fence? They don't seem to be in too much of a hurry though.

Definitely looking forward to Paseo. Still noplace to get a cold beer and look out at the marina.... oh well...

    A W E S O M E, this place rocks ;)
  • We got there at about 11:15, and while we beat the rush, my plan backfired a bit, as they didn't have any ham or swiss, so we had to wait a bit. Still worth it!
  • I stopped by this morning just before noon. I was "number 16" and the lip-pierced hipster manning the cash register said it looked good for Opening Day. Ordered a #2, with a corn. Just what I hoped for. I loved Gordo's. I think some of that karma has carried over for Paseo's new satellite. Rock on.

Bella, I must have gotten there right after you. They were still out of ham (waiting for their guy to get back with it) when I arrived too but it didn't matter as I thought since this was my first time there I would go with their #1 the "original". Grilled tender Pork, large grilled onions, cilantro, jalapenos, large stock/piece of romaine lettuce, smothered in Paeso sauce (garlic mayo?) all on a baguette type of bread...I also asked for the corn which they will give you for free if you ask! The corn had some kind of flavored butter on it. All I can say is WOW! Wonderfully large portions and very messy. My suggestion would be to unwrap it as you eat it...like Taco Del Mar.

Beware that they are still getting things together over there so the service was slow today.
  • Huh, at the Fremont location, they ask "here or to go?" and if here, you get your food on a plate with corn on the side automatically. I noticed that the corn was on the menu as a side at some point, but I got enough other food, it really doesn't matter that I skipped it this time. Good to know that they are still offering it as a free side upon request.

P.S., the service is always kind of slow, which is fine because it seems like it is because they are bothering to give you decent freshly cooked food.

Hey Bella - at the Fremont location you can get the free corn too, you just have to ask for it if you are ordering it to go :)

Ill try it but gordos was very good at times.

I really miss Gordos, Paul and the Pizzaburger.

But as consolation prizes go, Paseo is pretty good. Not open on Sundays? Is that right?
