Monitor traffic along 15th Ave. NW

Posted by Geeky Swedes on March 29th, 2009

The Seattle Department of Transportation has created a new website to give drivers traffic conditions on main city streets. For the first time, that includes 15th Ave NW. The site features color-coded roadways so you can decide which route to take. You can also check the city’s traffic cameras and see where trouble spots, like construction projects, might be. The traffic information is gathered from measuring devices embedded in the roadway, according to the press release sent out by the city. (Thanks for the email Armand!)

  • Cool idea and another example of crappy MS virtual earth apps that impede access to the info they are supposed to provide..

Much like all traffic reports/gizmos, what are ya gonna do with this info, buy a helicopter? We all know exactly just where/when/why stuff bogs down. Tomorrow will be no different either. 15th will back up and ease off later in the morning. Then in the afternoon it gets crazy once again. 520 is going to back up to I-5 too. Rocket scientist.

Some days are worse than others. Some times there are accidents. Construction begins and ends. Sometimes you have a flexible schedule and can wait until traffic dies down. Sometimes you can plan an alternate route. Sometimes you can alert folks on the other end that it looks like you might be late. Not every day is the same, or life would be terribly boring. Those of us who enjoy using information will use it, the Goofy Norwegian won't. We'll all be happy.

Tell me Julia, about all of those "alternative routes" we can take out of Ballard? How are you really going to "use this info"? Are you going to use another street I don't know about? You must be another one of those driving a Subaru with a KEXP sticker, a dog or 2, a war is terrorism sticker and YOU feel individual? LMAO. I have GPS. What good does it do me if there aren't any "alternative routes"? I'm not trilled about urban density. Dense being the important part.

I use traffic maps particularly when I'm going someplace I don't visit often. And lots of people have no idea when any of the sports teams have a game, except when we see it on the traffic map. The whole world doesn't revolve around commuters shuttling back and forth to work. If the traffic map says there is congestion on my route, I might decide to postpone the trip to a different day or time.

And I have 3 different routes from Ballard to downtown, depending on traffic.

(I really wish MyBallard didn't tolerate so many personal insults, by the way. It's getting out of hand.)

I wish I could click my heels together and wish all this traffic away. I Wish dissent went both ways. I wish our leaders would do something besides figuring out ways to take what we have and dictate/control us like sheople. I wish I wish I wish. Now, back to reality. Take your meds and be happy

Goofy Norwegian, why do you keep going on and on posting the same things if that's just how reality is? You're going to a lot of effort. Why?

I agree elenchos. having this information can really help a lot, provided one has an OPEN MIND.
if you're too cool for school, because you have a GPS, then you can sit in traffic all day. I might even sneak up and slap a KCMU sticker on your bumper while you're stuck in traffic. then you can also be an individual. individual idiot that is.
