El Camión taco truck opens in Ballard

El Camión, the popular taco truck in SoDo (2918 1st Ave S) and North Seattle (11728 Aurora Ave N) opens their third location in Ballard today.

The truck has been parked in the Mud Bay (5314 15th Ave NW) parking lot since May just waiting for permit approvals. Now that they’ve passed all their inspections, the taco truck can open. Owner Scott McGinnis tells us that Ballard is his home turf. His family lives here and kids go to school here. “There is already a lot a great food in Ballard but but we wanted to bring what we do to Ballard as well,” he says.

Beth first emailed us the news of the opening, “The food’s fantastic!” she writes. “Come on down and support this fabulous operation.” El Camión will open today around 10 a.m., although their normal hours will most likely be 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

  1. I frequent the aurora location time to time, soooooooooo good. Great, I guess I'm going to need to get a bigger size in clothes now.

  2. there was another mobile vendor set up on Shilshole the other day, probably around 17th or so on the South side of the street.

it was an unmarked camper-looking rv. like it could've been there for days and suddenly the owner decided to start selling hot lunches.

anyway, there were a few people in line kind of spilling into the roadway..

  3. it was pretty good – i checked 'em out today. it was funny watching the poor gal at the window struggle with the ballard whitey's though..”so, umMMM, what's in the tah-cohhh? “

  4. I stopped by here a week or so ago, it's a little taquería, but I can't remember their name. They said they'd only be operating there for lunch two times a week, and you've got the cross streets right. The carne asada was pretty good, the carnitas a little 'gamey'. Apparently they'll be in other locations around the city as well, like Greenlake.

I believe Tuesday is one of their shilshole lunch days.

  5. This is the best Mexican food I’ve had since I’ve been in California, its fairly well priced, cheapish, but well priced compared to the other taco trucks in town. The food is AMAZING!

  6. Hands down, the best Mexican food I’ve had since moving here 5 years ago. Everything from the portion sizes to the marinated peppers by the pick-up window. Every single thing. Absolutely wonderful.
