Captain Sig and the F/V Northwestern make big screen debut

Ballard’s Captain Sig Hansen and his boat, the F/V Northwestern, made famous by the TV show, Deadliest Catch, are now on the big screen. Captain Sig voices “Crabby the Boat” in the new movie, Cars 2.

“Surprised & fascinated to see the Seattle-based F/V Northwestern as a new character in the new Cars 2 movie that opened this week (we saw it at Majestic Bay of course)! Greater even was that the anthropomorphic ship was voiced by Ballard’s own Captain Sig Hansen,” Jeff emailed us. In the movie, Crabby has the job of transporting sports car Finn McMissile (voice by Michael Caine), a British master spy.

Hansen says he met Cars 2 co-director John Lasseter at a fundraiser in Sonoma. “One thing led to another,” says Hansen. “They said, ‘Hey, we need a boat.’ ‘I have a boat.’ ‘Let’s do it.’ It was really kind of casual. It was nothing we pitched. It just sort of fell in my lap.”
