AvalonBay breaks ground on new development

Work has started on one of Ballard’s vacant lots. This morning AvalonBay broke ground on Avalon Ballard, the 233-unit apartment building replacing Sunset Bowl at Market St. and 14th Ave. NW.

The lot has been sitting vacant since the 50+ year old bowling alley was demolished in January 2010.

This morning we ran into AvalonBay Development Director Derek Bottles who tells us that it will take about 18 months to complete the project.

Back in April 2009, the Design Review Board unanimously approved the design (read that coverage here.)
