Osprey nest removed from train trestle

Updated: The family of Osprey that has been living on the south tower of the train trestle just west of the Ballard Locks is gone.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) crews are on the trestle today and Gus Melonas with BNSF tells us the tower will be removed by the end of the week “It is obsolete and had to be removed,” Melonas says.

James emailed us and says that the chicks flew the nest last week and shortly after, the nest was removed. Melonas tells us that BNSF worked with appropriate agencies such as the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife to remove the nest.
