Pono Ranch (4502 Shilshole Ave NW) will play host to a benefit for Community Radio in Northwest Seattle this Saturday, as Fulcrum Community Communications continues working toward the launch a low-power FM radio station for Ballard, Fremont, Greenwood, Phinney and the north Queen Anne/Magnolia neighborhoods.

There’s a suggested donation of $20 for the event, which will run from 2 to 11 p.m. and feature performances from COHO, I’m with Amy, Yaima, and School of Rock, among others, with the proceeds going to the station. All are welcome for the all ages show.

Fulcrum envisions providing a non-profit community radio station for the community with predominantly local programming, some non-English programming, some talk and news, and a diverse mix of local, live performance, youth, and traditional music. According to their mission, the group hopes to provide a platform for youth and under-served communities to learn and practice journalism and broadcasting skills, collaborate with other community journalism efforts, and provide a forum for local educational, environmental, social, business, and political concerns and discussion.
