Ballard High is fundraising for a new tuba

Ballard High School needs a new concert tuba. The Ballard High School PTSA and Performing Arts Boosters have teamed up to set up an online fundraiser with the hopes of raising $8,000 to purchase a student tuba for the school’s band program.

Director of Bands Michael James is expected to have the biggest band at Ballard High School in years this coming September. With that growth comes the additional need for instruments.

Back in April, the Ballard High School PTSA BASH Dinner and Auction was able to raise the BHS Performing Arts program $31,000. PTSA says those funds went directly to fulfilling some much needed infrastructure upgrades in the Performing Arts program, including: additional LED lighting for the Earl Kelly Performing Arts Center, several musical instruments for the band and orchestra, an acoustical shell, sheet music, microphones, supplies like bows for cellos and such.

“We got so close to completing our list,” says James, explaining that the desired tuba is the last thing on the band’s wishlist.

“A concert tuba would be in the program for decades, literally. A lot of students would get to play [it], and [it] would benefit a lot of band students here in Ballard.”
