The heart of Ballard is a “walker’s paradise,” according to Walkscore.com, which announced today their most walkable neighborhoods in Seattle. The site has been giving walkability scores for about a year, but this is the first time they ranked individual neighborhoods. Pioneer Square tops the list, based on its accessibility to grocery stores, restaurants, coffee shops and other amenities. Ballard ranked #13 with a score of 83 out of 100, but “central Ballard” (for lack of a better name) is in the 90+ range, according to the heat map.
Of the 77 neighborhoods, Blue Ridge was at the very bottom with a score of 32. North Beach wasn’t far ahead with a score of 34. For a more detailed score, you can type in your address on the site. (We came up with a score of 67. Of course, they’re counting the corner market as a grocery store, which isn’t really true.)
