Weekend events for Ballard and beyond

Updated: Lots of events in Ballard and surrounding neighborhoods below. (Please note the change in the Aster Coffee event)…

  • In Greenwood, Seattle’ first “Summer Streets” event of the season kicks off tonight (Friday). From 6 to 9 p.m., Greenwood Avenue/Phinney Avenue will be closed from from 87th to 65th St. for the event, which will feature live music, art and even a whiffleball game in the middle of the street. PhinneyWood has all the details.
  • As we wrote earlier, Honk Fest West will be playing in various Old Ballard locations Friday night from 7 p.m. until closing time.
  • On Saturday, join your neighbors for the quickest special event of the year: the Spring Candy and Egg Hunts, one at the Ballard Community Center (9 a.m.) and another at the Loyal Heights Community Center (10 a.m.) Ages 2-10, free. Be sure to bring a basket or bag to put all your goodies in!
  • Bring the kids to Woodland Park Zoo Saturday morning for the annual Bunny Bounce (above), where thousands of eggs are hidden throughout the North Meadow. Egg hunts are held from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and they’re free with zoo admission. More details here.
  • It’s the second Saturday of the month, so that means it’s the Ballard ArtWalk from 6 to 9 p.m. Map and a preview right here (.pdf file).
  • Updated: Chris Ballew’s performance at Aster Coffee has been canceled due to illness, but Aster is still hosting artist Kate Endle’s opening during the Ballard ArtWalk. Endle created Ballew’s album art for Casper Babypants.
  • Also on Saturday night, the Leif Erikson Lodge is hosting the Norwegian Happy Hour from 5 to 8 p.m. $5 gets you two drinks, and some Norwegian snacks (meatballs! Herring!) as well as enjoying some Scandinavian rock ‘n’roll. Leif Erikson Lodge is at 2245 NW 57th Street.

For more live music, check out the calendars for the Tractor Tavern, Sunset Tavern, The Bit Saloon, High Dive, Conor Byrne, Egan’s Ballard Jam House and Nectar. As always, check out our events calendar. And if you have an event to add, just email us at tips@myballard.com and we’ll post it in the calendar.

  1. I think the egg hunts at the community centers are on Saturday – not Sunday.

Also, there's another egg hunt at Salmon Bay Park on Sunday – at least that's what it says over at BallardBlog:

“In addition, Salmon Bay Eagles are hosting an egg hunt at Salmon Bay Park on Sunday, April 12, 2009 at 1pm. Some eggs will have candy, some will have prizes, and the Easter Bunny will be there!”
