Hate crime arrest made in Loyal Heights

A Seattle man has been arrested and faces a felony hate-crime charge for an incident that happened just before 8 p.m. yesterday at a bus stop near 15th & 85th. The Seattle Times is reporting that the suspect threatened to stab an African-American man who was waiting for the bus and told him, “You don’t belong here.” The police arrived on scene after a bus passenger called police and the suspect apparently told them that the victim started the altercation when he “started talking black… to me.” The police tell the Times that the suspect is 43-year-old hispanic man. He is being held without bail at the King County Jail for investigation of felony malicious harassment. (Thanks Andreas for the tip!)

  1. I've had people at bus stops start yelling at me because they thought I looked at them funny. Sadly, this incident doesn't surprise me at all.
As someone who takes the bus quite a lot I'd like to see some security at the trouble stops (and Metro knows full well which stops those are).

  2. i saw this entire deal go down as i was going to eat at thai siam last night and wondered what the situation was. i am so happy they got this sick man. i had an incident with him threatening me and my dog last week. he threw rocks at my own dog, bella, inside my own yard and my own fence at my own house where i live and when i came outside to see what was going on, he screamed at me and quote, told me: “I have a pistol and i will be back!”

obviously, i called the cops and spoke with my immediate neighbors who know me well about it. 2 neighbor woman witnessed it themselves.

same exact man. thank Goodness this piece of scum is out of my neighborhood! btw, bella had a huge bump on her head from him throwing rocks at her. it really really angered me to wit's end!

  3. hopefully you reported him to the police…hopefully they can put him away where we wont hurt anyone else.

This also reminds me of the guy who attacked the blind lady (she lives in Ballard) a couple of weeks back on the bus saying “the sick must die” or something crazy like that.

  4. seattlerichardson:
yes, indeed (as my post says) i did call the police on this weirdo. hurting my dog and threatening me is not cool or ok. my mom was blind before she died and i thank the heavens that i was NOT on that bus when he tried attacking that lady. it would not have been a good scene for anyone.

i wish these sick minds could get the help they so desperately need. people who hurt the sick or elderly are a class of their sick own!

  5. This guy was probably one of the wack job commenters that frequent this blog trying to say that certain people “don't belong here.” If the forum rules didn't prevent it, a lot of these anti-homeless posters would probably also be posting anti-black comments. Same thing right? Judging someone by their appearance and not by the person they are.

  6. A 43 year old “Hispanic” man eh? According to the Reverand Jeese Jackson minorities “don't have the power to discriminate”. How then can this be? Is he here legally? Maybe one of the bleeding heart libs on this site can take this guy in and help him. You know, compassion/tolerance etc. Do we know exactly what was in this persons mind at the time of this “crime”? Do we know he “hates” anybody? How does anybody prove that? Maybe he mentioned he was a Republican. That'll do it. HYPER-sensitivty at it again. Get this guy off the streets and into a place to get help. We do want what's best for people don't we? We are compasionate, aren't we?

  7. I wonder if the hate crime was commited by “Chopper74” or some of his co-horts that post thier utopian-Ballard drivel on this website, I can just see those self-righteous ideals transmorphing from the pages of this website into real life, crazy poeple living in Ballard these days. “You can't do this, bums must die, don't smoke crack in our park, not in my back yard, I'm a zenophobe, won't leave the house anymore, put tin foil up on all my walls, oh no the tv went out, man – maybe I should shave off all my body hair, is that the phone ringing, how long since I have left the house. Do crazy poeple know that they are crazy?”

  8. Jeez, what a stupid thing to say.

Skin color, race, or ethnicity has nothing to do with whether you're a contributing member of the community and a good citizen, or a creepy thug who's dragging it down.

In case you hadn't noticed, the vast majority of the bums and scumbags in this neighborhood are lazy-ass white folks. Personally, I'll take more of the hard-working people of color for neighbors (I've got a nice diverse street and like it that way), and fewer of the drugged-out bums living in an old camper any day.

Of course, it's convenient to try and paint those you disagree with on some issues as racists….if your arguments don't stand up (crime is NOT on the rise! we should welcome all of the city's bums! everything's GREAT!), then calling someone names is all you've got. Nice try.

  9. No one that I know, or associate with, including myself would be capable of such irresponsible behavior.
Your post is disgusting, inflammatory, biased and baseless.
However, you just can't resist attacking true compassion, can you.
You should find a clue, apply it as recommended, call me in the morning.

  10. OK….so you think there's an “obvious connection” between bums and black people. Good to know, compassionate person…

  11. I gave you a chance, went back aind read a bunch of the comments you posted and found no compassion at all in anything you said; you sir are whats wrong with Ballard, the US, and the World. I also thought it was funny how I read a post of yours talking about how the homeless in Bergen park new who “chopper 74” was, or were trying to figure out who “chopper 74”, it shows your paranoid and you have good reason to be, your no different than that old white supremist that had the door opened for him at the holocaust museum and then opened fire on the man that opened the door for him, leave Ballard! “Idealism is the undoing of all good ideas.”

  12. hmmm, “…and found no compassion at all in anything you said…”
So, check out Webster, you'll find the definition there.
    You don't comprehend well,
“…I also thought it was funny how I read a post of yours talking about how the homeless in Bergen park new who “chopper 74″ was…”
Never said that. But they do want to know who, as do you.
I'm not paranoid, I'm just not clueless as to how unstable such individuals that resist truth can be. Oh, the hate, oh, the vitriolic speech, oh…the 'moral high ground'….simply dumb.
“If you want…here it is…come and get it…but ya better hurry cause it's goin fast….”
oh, that wasn't your quote, that's one I actually like…
Sorry BSN, you were right, I shoulda iggy'd the fool.

  13. Were you referring to my post upthread? If so, different person jackass. Is it so hard to believe that there may be multiple people who think that you guys are wacked out xenophobes?

  14. “Of course, it's convenient to try and paint those you disagree with on some issues as racists”. This is exactly what you are doing. However stupid and irrelevant “Stupid Hippies” post is, you are now trying to paint him as a racist.

  15. I'm sorry that you are so blind to your own beliefs. Talk like “lazy-ass white folks” “drugged-out bums living in an old camper any day” are very similar to things that have been said about people of color. Once you realize that there are many different socio-economic factors involved, and quit stereotyping people based on appearance, you will gain a true sense of compassion.

I'm sorry if you found my post offensive, it's not like I called you out, but you jumped on it. I wouldn't necessarily call you racist, but you definitely have some classism going on.

  16. The homeless are being evaluated by the actions of a few. Its the same thing kind of thinking that classifies certain races or classes are criminals.

  17. It is so much fun “flaming” you, or whatever the kids call it nowadays because put plain and simply you make no sense and make it that much easier for any other web user of this site to not take anything you say seriously. Also, I don't want to know who you are; and if you are infering that I might want to know who you are so I can enact some kind of justice or revenge for the inflamatory setiment you represent on this site, you are making the mistake of thinking I am capable of violence because as it would appear – you seem capable of violence. I am not capable of violence in any regards because I don't carry hatred around like you do, lifes to short to be complaining about the negative aspects of society. In the words of a great philosopher, “fear leads to anger, anger leads to hatred, and hatred leads to suffering.” Well keep suffering “chopper74” cause based on how you speak here on this blog, you sir surely are not living, no one living thier life happily would waste any time trying to keep homeless poeple out of Ballard – a pointless battle that would surely lead to what is obviously on your part bitterness and anger.
