Penguins start their march today

The colorful, creative and bedazzled penguins start their march today toward the Woodland Park Zoo. Back in April the zoo did a “call for artists” to dress up 22-inch fabricated penguins in honor of the new Humboldt Penguin exhibit. Today, more than 50 penguins will start migrating from the Seattle Center through Ballard, Fremont, Greenwood and Phinney Ridge.

Shown here is Laura Bee Designs’ “Dorothy Parker Penguin” complete with a pearl button necklace and a patent leather purse. Tonight the Art Up/Open Up Greenwood-Phinney art walk will feature 30 of the penguins from 6 to 9 p.m. They’ll be auctioned off in July to benefit the zoo’s field conservation program. 1. That would be a nice coincidence.
If you can tear yourself away from the game long enough, the Greenwood/Phinney art walk is always a good time. And I can't wait to finally see all the penguins.

  2. tear yourself away from a game 7 of the stanley cup finals?

    are you crazy???!!

Malkin will make it happen tonight. Zetterberg will be crying himself to sleep.

I would like to see these little penguins though. maybe I can put a tiny 'Crosby' jersey on the one marching thru Fremont.

  3. actually not a pittsburgh native (actually from a similar sized city about 3 hours north!)

just a crazy hockey fan who's pretty sick of seeing the Red Wings win it all.

I really like this pens team in particular–especially Jordan Staal.

    almost gametime!!!!!

  4. Saw them at the Greenwood Art Walk last night. They were great! Very creative. I think they're making an appearance at the Ballard Art Walk tonight too.

  5. Which one was yours, if you don't mind me asking?
They were stunningly displayed at the Greenwood Art Collective friday night. No penguin felt un-admired. :-)
