Via Verde evicted, says notice on door

The Italian restaurant Via Verde opened in Ballard last summer and changed management in January. And now the restaurant has been evicted from the building, according to a notice on the door.

“Be advised that the occupants of these premises have been evicted by detectives of the King County Sheriff, and said premises have been restored to owner by order of the Superior Court,” the document from the sheriff’s department reads. “Previous occupants and unauthorized persons found trespassing on these premises shall be subject to arrest and prosecution.” The notice said the eviction occurred at 10 a.m. Friday, and we found the restaurant closed Friday evening. We saw a couple people inside, but they didn’t answer the phone or our knocking on the door. (Thanks Benton for the tip!)

  1. Wow. Sounds like the “change in management” didn't exactly pay off. I wonder what the issue was. Failure to pay rent perhaps?

  2. You know, I had the Bruschetta once at Via Verde and it was quite good. But the phony atmosphere, the found-at-bed-bath-&-beyond decorations, the convoluted menus dolled up just like at Applebees….none of it felt like it had any soul. They tried too hard and are now just another failed business among many other failed businesses on that block.

  3. I agree. I ate there once and the food wasn't bad, but I had no desire to go back. And the sign still looks like a gas station mini mart sign.

  4. never went as I never heard anything good about it…plus with all the other options you better bring your “A game” to survive right now!

  5. Would it kill us to have some great Thai in Ballard? Or does it have to be Italian/pizza, burgers, or sushi? I'd even be happy with some good teriyaki (like Yasuko's).

  6. It's a shame, it was a mom and pop deal. I met Marin early on, and frequented the place until the new manager took over. It went from a good bistro to something less, and the personnel were no longer personable.
I figured this would be forthcoming, but I'll miss it anyhow.
Anyway, that space has had a lot invested into it. It may make a good turn-key opportunity for someone.

  7. ugh i gave that place TWO different tries. and it failed miserably both times.

horrid service (during one visit the waiter spent more time dining @ a table with what appeared to be friends than paying any attention to us or orders when they were ready, horrid food (“crostini” that was made of stale flatbread with a heap of mealy tomatoes and a few flecks of basil heaped in the middle of the plate. ugh.

my friend who accompanied me both times and i were NOT impressed, and joked about it being a front, as we got that fakish chain type decor vibe that really didn't have much thought put into it…

  8. The first time I went there (shortly after its opening) it was delicious with great service. I went back again expecting the same caliber (this was before January), and everything had changed. The food was gross, the service was terrible, the decor was generic, and the music was awful. Not sorry to see this one go….

  9. LYx – do you mean you're a friend of mine? i don't recognise your “name” on here (unless the first 2 characters are your initials, in which case i'm pretty sure i know who you are)

  10. Ya gal, it's me…I couldn't use “LY” (my initials) as a login as Discus wants three letters, so I added an “x”…Lisanne

Unless there is another jezbian in town but I can't imagine that!

  11. OK, I guess you're right. I didn't know that Uma had taken over that spot. The reviews look mostly positive, so we'll have to give it a try.

    What's your favorite?

  12. I've had Thai food all over Seattle and Thai Siam is one of my favorites. Even though I don't go too much anymore since I moved to West Seattle (I now have Vatsana's to get an amazing Thai fix), the people that work at Thai Siam are wonderful and they still know me by name from living there almost two years ago!

  13. Too many Thai places? Nonsense. If there were too many then some of these places would be out of business.

And no one even mentions Wild Orchid? That's not right. They have good food and are nice people.

  14. I’m sorry to see it go. The pizzas I had delivered were good if a bit overpriced. I always called Sopranos but they have had problems lately getting the orders correct and their product in general is deteriorating so this place was a decent alternative.

I can’t comment on eating in the restaurant since I never have but I don’t pay for atmosphere or decor or a sign when I do go out. I pay for good food and to enjoy the company I am with or maybe a good view.

  15. I just tried Wild Orchid a few days ago and found it to be very tasty indeed! I live real close and all my neighbors seem to agree as well. Definitely looking forward to sampling more of their menu!

  16. I used to go every so often if only for the cute bolgarian woman that usualy was the only waiter on duty during the day. Oh adriana where have you gone………….
