Investigators determine cause of deadly fire

Seattle Fire Chief Gregory Dean says investigators have determined that the cause of Saturday’s deadly fire in Fremont was caused by a foam mattress in a downstairs closet that was leaning against a light bulb. Dean says the fire was ruled accidental.

Our sister site, FremontUniverse.com, was at the press conference held this afternoon by Chief Dean and has more information here.

  1. This is so sad. I couldn’t help thinking about the family last night quite a bit. When I was a kid we had fire safety taught in every grade in grade and part of our homework was to prepare a fire safety plan with our families. I think there needs to be a lot more fire safety taught in our community again because if I hadn’t learned it as a kid I wouldn’t have realized that opening the windows would make the fire spread more quickly.
