Knife-wielding man confronts woman and her service dog

A man armed with a knife threatened a woman and her service dog after the dog started barking at him.  A police report just released today details the frightening incident that happened in the 900 block of Leary Way on June 11 around 6am.  The woman was standing outside a store with her dog when the man approached with a knife in his hand and said he was going to cut the dog’s throat.  The woman told the man he would have to cut her throat first.  That was followed by some very tense moments when the man got right up in the woman’s face and continued to follow her.

When officers arrived, they saw the man hiding behind a pillar and ordered him to stop and keep his hands where they could see them.  The man refused and kept moving toward the officers.  When the man got within 12 feet of the officers, he started reaching for his pocket.   Officers yelled at him to stop, but the man still refused.  Officers were eventually able to grab the man and arrest him without incident.

  1. “When the man got within 12 feet of the officers, he started reaching for his pocket. Officers yelled at him to stop, but the man still refused. Officers were eventually able to grab the man and arrest him without incident.”

They should’ve put two in his chest! One less wacko on the streets!

  2. Those idiots didn’t get roughed up for jaywalking. They got roughed up, deservedly so, for resisting arrest and assaulting an officer.

  3. “Good thing he wasn’t Jaywalking, SPD would’ve had to rough him up”

You mean those two ‘ladies’ who attacked that cop? Poor things, they looked so innocent in the video fighting with him and shoving him.

“Whats a honkey got to due to get punched in the face by a cop in this town?”

    Swing at him first.

  4. You dont even need to swing at a cop first…it’s much easier, just put your hands on a cop in a agressive manner…once a threat is precieved, you’ll get knocked around.

  5. Last fall I was walking with my dog in the 56th/26th area when a dirty, nasty vagrant started screaming at us. “I hate F*CKing dogs. I’m going to shoot your dog.” He followed us down the street threatening us and yelling profanities. Him and 3 of his cronies.

I called 911. No one came. The impression that I clearly got from the operator was that since I didn’t actually see a gun (no idea if he had one concealed), he wasn’t going to dispatch anyone. So it’s apparently ok for these scumbags to threaten people.

  6. “The woman told the man he would have to cut her throat first.”

That’s awesome, sounds like one tough blind lady, she must be from Ballard!

It makes me think of the old Public Enemy song, "911 is a Joke." The Seattle police seem to work from the viewpoint of the backlash against the Bratton/Giuliani approach of targeting small crimes and antisocial behavior, which was that this kind of aggressive policing was racist and cruel toward the homeless and the poor. This swings the pendulum back to the way things were in the 70's, with the police doing as little as possible, just collecting their paychecks and avoiding any "incidents." But Seattle is very liberal and the citizens seem to like it that way.

  8. Just say you ‘think’ the guy has a gun and the cops will come. This happened to me at a Ballard park when a bum threatened to kill me and my kids.

As a bonus, should the bum make one bad move, he might get plugged.

  9. Just another tricky day in good old Ballard. And yes the cops do have a pri0rity list when calls come in. One is to wait and see how many other calls come in pertaining to an incident. Just go to KOMO and a scanner is easy to find/listen to. And to all the anti-gun nuts. Thanks for nuthin. Still waiting for you all to stick that sign in your front yards telling the entire world: this house has NO guns in it”. Really want to send a clear message, right? Go ahead punk, make my day.

  10. Interesting that bums will accost and threaten people without thought of repercussion. I know people who don’t live in Ballard who carry a concealed semi-auto pistol, and would have put that pistol right in the bum’s face. The bum would think twice in the future about f*cking with people if he risked getting shot.

  11. mmmmmmmm the gun humpers are gettin’ a little turgid over this one.

But let me ask: How would John Q. Bronson inserting himself in the situation created better outcome? No one was injured and the POLICE would have, quite rightly, iced that hobo if they needed too. I mean you can, if you are a super-harsh sicko, wish that bum would have been aggressive enough to deserve on-the-spot execution, but everyone’s okay and the cops took him down. That’s perfect police work, right? Good job SPD!

And save the ifs and but because then my aunt would be my uncle.

And this is not to say that I’m not completely repulsed by this sub-human dirtbag ball of shite threatening a blind woman and her guide dog with a knife in our neighborhood. Wouldn’t have a mote of sympathy if he’d really needed to be shot, stoned or run down by a good samaritan driver. Fortunately this lady and our police handled things right but we need to get a handle on this crap.

  12. @ BallardMike. I did mention the gun. Repeatedly. I also mentioned repeatedly that he and his cronies were following me at that very moment. And I know that I sounded very threatened and scared because I was. But apparently unless I said that I was looking down the barrel it didn’t matter.

  13. Calling all hobos and bums! Please move to Ballard and become a valuable member of our liberal society. We are here to rehabilitate, feed and entertain you. After all, what else are our tax dollars for? We don’t learn from other large cities. We pave our own way for the greater good. Good thing we are starting here at home.
