This Thursday you can buy fresh, locally grown produce at Swedish Ballard (5300 Tallman Ave NW). The medical center’s Nutrition Services department is hosting a farmers market in the first floor Cafeteria Conference Room from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. “We are buying the produce from our produce vendor that does all its sourcing from local farmers,” Ed Boyle with Swedish Medical Center tells us, “It will be the equivalent of a single large stall at a farmers market but there will be more variety than one vendor could offer.” Executive chef Eric Eisenberg says that there will not be any vendors as a regular practice but a visiting farmer or two may come in throughout the season. (Disclosure: Swedish Medical Center is a sponsor of MyBallard.)

that’s great.
But why did they cut down the nice poplars on Market in front of their new medical building?
This is a neat idea. But even though it’s going to be hot, it would have been nice to hold it outside the cafeteria (even in the garage) instead of inside the Cafeteria Conference Room.
Still, it’s great that they’re making the effort.
Wish the hours better suited those of us who work mid-day, mid-week.
re: the poplars. We were sorry to see them go as well. We have plans for a specifically designed garden to be built in the current plaza.
thanks for responding, Dr. Lewis.
It’ll be nice to have some green in that plaza again.
Glad the hours are suited for those of us who work evenings and weekends!
