Rogue art pops up along Denny’s fence

A piece of art has appeared along the fence that surrounds the former Denny’s property. This one is a picture of a tombstone that reads “Moons over my hammy, we barely knew thee. Rest in peace.”

On the property itself, crews from Rhine Demolition and Abatement have been working under a white tent. According to the Department of Planning and Development, there is an active demolition permit that was issued in June 2008. A recent noise complaint to DPD states that “Rhine the demolition company is out on site doing the work on the old concrete pad for the Denny’s restaurant. They are using pneumatic tools. They have a tent over the work area.”

Back in July, it was reported that Benaroya was selling the property.

  1. I get up really early, but I did notice that the crew working on the lot was doing work at 5:30 am. Had I not been up I would have been upset. I know there is no way my building was asleep during their work! Glad at least someone knew where to complain. Does anyone know if they are actually going to build another 8 story on that corner? I can’t imagine it will blend well with that intersection. I am all for development, but smart development. Will they be able to rent/sell? Isn’t Ballard already kind of over built?

  2. You must live close to me – I’m in “The Ballard.” They were waking me up regularly for a while. Seems to have quieted down now.
